Liverpool Earns First Win in Post-Jurgen Klopp Era

post jurgen klopp eraIpswich Town fans celebrated the team’s return to the Premier League. However, they were reminded of how brutal their journey would be after meeting Liverpool to start the season. The latter’s post-Jurgen Klopp era began with a 2-0 win against Ipswich.

Ipswich and Liverpool faced off for the whole match, with Ipswich battling for possession and creating the game's two best opportunities. And they did it with a starting eleven that featured seven players from their promotion from English football's third division, League 1, a little over a year ago.

According to a sportsbook watchdog, Ipswich could not keep up with Liverpool as they stepped up their game and played faster. The score was leveled five minutes after the restart when Diogo Jota scored. Mohamed Salah then completed the scoring. The comfortable Liverpool we've grown to know and love over the past several seasons was shattered by a one-two punch that popped the Ipswich bubble.

Liverpool’s Post-Jurgen Klopp Era

Liverpool's only summer hire has been for the head coaching position; Klopp's nine-year reign at Feyenoord ended, and Slot left to take Klopp's place. Fans traveling to East Anglia were mutterings of worry on the club's off-season recruiting, or lack thereof, despite the plenty of praise for their new head coach, Slot, which was showcased in this debut performance. That means no other team in the top five European leagues has signed a player yet, including them. After Slot took command, he made a few minor adjustments here and there, but mostly, Klopp was on his side.

Liverpool seemed at first to be in a state of philosophical flux. Players defending corners frustratedly turned to the bench for direction as attackers came down the sides (skipping the midfield). Passes were ineffective. While in possession, Trent Alexander-Arnold swung from right back to defensive midfield and fired over just before halftime, but they could not register a single attempt on goal in the first half.

Surprisingly, Ipswich had the best counter-attack chances and the only two efforts on goal in the first half. With a few more errant passes or moments of hesitation with the ball, they could have caused more problems for Alisson.

However, Slot then changed things around. Slot has wanted this squad to play with more controlled intensity, backing possession and pressing to score; thus, the preseason mantra has been patience. Liverpool upped their game and found their groove; Ipswich were disoriented and unable to cope as Liverpool exploited their frantic attempts. People who use a soccer betting statistics-based strategy will likely predict the right result of the match.

Liverpool is a Work-In-Progress

With time and space created behind Ipswich's fullbacks, Liverpool began to convert many opportunities. In that area, Liverpool could capitalize on a through pass from Alexander-Arnold. The ball entered the box between Jacob Greaves and the otherwise superb Leif Davis, and Salah raced on it to set up Diogo Jota for the goal. A one-two with Dominik Szoboszlai set up Salah for the goal. Work completed.

As expected, the focus will be on Liverpool's early form in the post-Klopp era during their relatively quiet summer. It will take the team anything from five to eight games to establish their groove, but Slot has boasted about the talented roster he has taken over. And this was only days after they were unsuccessful in luring their ideal midfielder.

The Real Sociedad player Martín Zubimendi changed his heart and decided to stay with his childhood club in Merseyside, despite Slot's belief that he had convinced him to depart from San Sebastian. The result was a predicament for Liverpool, as they were left without a No. 6 under the system of their new coach. Since Ipswich was at ease going man-to-man in that area, they left alternatives on the counter after assigning that duty to Ryan Gravenberch in the first half. Although the midfield became more important as Liverpool increased the pace, it is easy to understand why the Reds have placed such a premium on a player at that position. As far as Slot is concerned, it is fundamental to his team's play style and ability to adjust. While you're hesitant to buy just because you can't help but wonder whether they might speed up the hunt for alternatives during the following two weeks. People who make small soccer bets think Liverpool should get a conductor with Rodri-like expertise.
