The Golden State Warriors defeated the Utah Jazz in commanding fashion, winning its second straight blowout. According to bookie PPH experts, Buddy Hield scored 27 points, and Stephen Curry added 20 to lead the Warriors against the Jazz 127-86.
In the season's first two games, the Warriors went 2-0 on the road thanks to performances from Andrew Wiggins (who grabbed a game-high thirteen rebounds) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (12 points and nine boards). On Wednesday, the Warriors rolled past the Portland Trail Blazers, 104–140. Kevon Looney added nine points and ten rebounds off the bench for the Warriors, Moses Moody said twelve, and Brandin Podziemski scored fifteen.
The Utah Jazz lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 126-124 on Wednesday. John Collins had 14 points, Lauri Markkanen scored 13, and Collin Sexton and Keyonte George had 12 points each. In addition, Jordan Clarkson had 11 points. Despite being down by nine points and having just four points to show for the opening 4 minutes and 45 seconds of the game, the Warriors' fortunes began to flip when Hield rallied a primarily bench squad to reverse the tide swiftly.
Second Straight Blowout Win for the Warriors
With eight points from Hield and two 3-pointers in his total, along with long-range shots from Curry and Moody, the visitors went on a 28-11 run to conclude the quarter, giving them an eight-point lead. Adding to his 24 points for the half on 9-for-11 shooting from the field and 6-for-7 from outside the arc, Hield—who was traded from Philadelphia to Dallas in the summer for Klay Thompson—scored 16 points in the second quarter.
After cruising to a 56-42 halftime lead, Golden State played every player on their roster for the second consecutive game. With an encore effort that was even better than his Warriors debut, Hield went 10-for-14 from the field and 7-for-9 from beyond the arc. He had 22 points in his debut.
On top of scoring 35 points on 51 field goals, the seasoned veteran dished out a game-high six assists.
Deadly from 3-Point Area
At the free throw line, Golden State was 20 for 50. With only four 3-pointers out of thirteen attempts, Curry was ably supported by Wiggins, Moody, and Lindy Waters III, who scored twice, in addition to Hield.
Midway through the first quarter, with a nine-point deficit, Hield came off the bench and scored two quick points—a 3-pointer off a feed from Curry and a layup that followed. A 22-21 advantage for the Warriors was achieved when Hield took on the role of facilitator, setting up Curry for a 3-pointer and Gary Payton II for a layup.
The record for most 3-pointers made by a player on a new team in an NBA season stands at 12, set by Hield in just two games.
By contrast, Utah's 3-point shooting was a dismal 9-for-42 (21.4 percent). George converted three out of eight chances, while Brice Sensabaugh converted two out of seven. Of Utah's scorers, Walker Kessler stood out with two points and nine rebounds. Along with his career-high point total, Collins led the team in rebounding with seven and assisted on four other players' baskets.
Golden State will host the Clippers on Saturday. On Monday night, the Jazz will travel to face Dallas.
