Giants Fire Marc Ross on Gettleman’s First Day on the Job

Giants Fire Marc Ross on Gettleman’s First Day on the JobBack in July of 2017, Dave Gettleman was fired as the head coach for the Carolina Panthers. A few months later, he was back in the news after being hired as the new General Manager of the New York Giants. Yesterday, in his first press conference, Gettleman announced that the Giants fired Marc Ross after 11 seasons with them.

Ross joined the Giants as the man in charge of college drafting. He quickly rose up the ladder and five years later became the Vice President of player evaluation. Before he joined the Giants, Ross worked for the Buffalo Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles. Even though both men had to part ways, Gettleman only had good things to say about Ross.

"I worked with Marc when I was with the organization before," Gettleman said in a statement. "I have great respect for him and high regard for his work. Clearly, we're going in a different direction, but that doesn't make these kinds of decisions any easier."

Gettleman is looking to clean house in the Giants’ club house and Ross was just the first. On Saturday, Gettleman also cut right tackle Bobby Hart. Many sportsbook software companies are wondering about this move. It is unusual that a starter gets cut just one day before the season ends.

Hart has played in 10 games this season and in a total of 33 games with the Giants. It is apparent that he has no use for Hart who will now go on waiver with one year remaining in his current contract with a due base salary of $705,000. Offensive Tackle Erick Flowers will also be left out according to the NFL Network.

Major House Cleaning for the Giants

Giants Fire Marc Ross When Gettleman was first hired as the new General Manager of the Giants on Dec. 28, 2017, he was quoted as saying, "My plan is to come in here every day and kick (butt). That's my plan, OK?"

This looks exactly like what he is doing now in order to get the Giants back on track after heading into a possible 2-14 or 3-13 season. Whether they defeat Washington today will be irrelevant as either way, they will end the 2017-18 season with embarrassing numbers.

The purge of Marc Ross, Bobby hart and possible Ereck Flowers will probably make the new General Manager of the Giants popular. These three names were not very well liked by fans as they never seemed to be able to deliver.

On another note, they did add offensive linemen Adam Bisnowaty, Nick Becton, and tight end Ryan O'Malley, to the active roster from the practice squad.

Several iGaming insight companies are suspecting that this is just the tip of the iceberg for Gettleman.  After being fired from the Panthers and inheriting a losing team, he has a lot to prove.

With the upcoming draft, most experts believe that Gettleman will have to find some new talent to bring the team together.
