Good news for the Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation as their revenue for their lotteries and Video Lottery Terminals has increased their revenue from $396.6 million in 2014-2015 to $441 million for the 2015-2016 year.
According to a press release from Thursday, CEO and President of the Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation attributes the surge in revenue from big wins in the ticket lotteries and a sharp upward spike in revenue from the VLTs.
For the gambler, this poses some interesting questions about the coloration between the cancelation of the “My-Play” program, a program that targeted the deterrence of people with gambling addictions from playing which in reality only stopped people without any gambling issues from playing.
This program was discontinued in August of 2014 and since then a surge in revenue has been taking place.
According to experts that bet sports online, this of course does not deal with online sportsbooks such as BetOnline.ag and is limited to only machines and lottery tickets.
These machines; however are a cause for concern according as they are very addicting and some believe that the government needs to step and come up with another program to balance out the loss of the “My-Play” program.
The Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation does not track who is using their machines on a regular basis and there is no way to tell if the spike in revenue comes from the recreational gambler or from people that have a gambling problem.
Either way, the big winner is the province of Nova Scotia as all of the revenue will in their coffers.
