No Potential Triple Crown Winner in Belmont Stakes 2024

potential triple crown winnerThe 156th Belmont Stakes will take place on Saturday. It is usually held at Belmont Park but will occur in Saratoga this year. Also, there is no potential Triple Crown winner, as there were two winners in the Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby. The Triple Crown races are the biggest horse races in the world.

The Associated Press reported that a smaller, more modern grandstand and improved track surfaces are part of Belmont Park's $455 million redevelopment.

The location on Saturday is unique in more ways than one. The Belmont Park race takes place on the lengthiest American racing track, 1 ½ miles. When compared, the Saratoga Race Course is shorter at 1 ¼ miles, which is also the distance of the Kentucky Derby.

No Potential Triple Crown Winner

Nobody can claim Triple Crown glory in 2024 since the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes will each have different champions. Including the Belmont Stakes, they are the 3 major horse racing events for bettors. Until Justify (2018), just thirteen horses in horse racing have won all three races. Even at this late hour (6:41 p.m. ET), there is a lot of mystery surrounding the Belmont Stakes.

As the 9/5 favorite going into the race, Sierra Leone is trained by Chad Brown and will be ridden by Flavien Prat. At three years old, the horse had already won the Risen Star Stakes and the Blue Grass Stakes, and she was a close second in the Kentucky Derby. Brown has never been the Belmont Stakes champion; he hails from the neighboring town of Mechanicville, New York.

With chances of 5/1, the runner-up, Mystik Dan, is the horse most likely to win the Kentucky Derby. This would be trainer Kenny McPeek's second Belmont Stakes triumph; he previously won the race in 2002 with Sarava. This will be the seventh Belmont race that legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas has competed in, following his 1994, 1995, 1996, and 2000 triumphs. His prospects are in the hands of the 8/1 favorite Seize the Grey, winner of the Preakness Stakes.

Wins by Mystik Dan or Seize the Gray on Saturday would make them the 53rd horse in Triple Crown history to win both legs.

Belmont Stakes Long Shots

Bettors can choose Mindframe and Resilience, two long shots with tremendous value. While Mindframe (7/2 odds) is among the field's most inexperienced horses, he has a perfect record in two races—his debut at Gulfstream Park and the third on Kentucky Derby Day—where he dominated. Todd Pletcher has won at Belmont in 2007, 2013, 2017, and 2022; this may be his fifth.

The odds on Resilience, ridden by Junior Alvarado and trained by Bill Mott, are 10 to 1. The 3-year-old has won two of his four races in 2024 and finished sixth at the Kentucky Derby. This race was won by Mott and Drosselmeyer in 2010.
