Over the weekend, rumors were quickly spreading about a possible fight between World Boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather and MMA fighting champion, Conor McGregor.
The rumors started when the Floyd Mayweather Production was going to request a meeting with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to formally fight McGregor on August 26, 2017. Later on, Mayweather Promotions said that the request had been retracted.
It now looks like the retraction never took place as the Nevada State Athletic Commission has just approved Mayweather Promotions’ request to have a boxing event on August 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Several dates for the event had been suggested like the July 29 and September 16 according to several rumor mills by several gambling websites and sports betting software companies. However, August 26 seems to fight the time slot best since the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight cannot be held within three weeks of the Canelo vs. Golovkin fight to avoid infringing on promotional rights.
Even though this potentially huge fight that everyone has been waiting for is still in the work and not set in stone, Mayweather and McGregor have been taking shots at each other over social media:
“Man, much respect to Floyd Senior still getting a few rounds in at the gym. I hope I can still train at that age.”

“The good news is that talks are reportedly progressing, just slowly. The bad news is that we still have no idea if this fight is actually going to happen. Perhaps we'll know more about where the two sides stand by the end of the day if Mayweather changes his mind again.”

The MGM Grand Garden Arena has a capacity to hold 17,157 people and has been the home of 40 UFC events as well as to some of the most historic fights like the Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield fights and the Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao fight.
