Last weekend saw a number of upsets, with three teams ranked in the Top Ten all losing outright. #2 LSU, #7 Michigan State, and #8 TCU all lost outright to shake up the top of the CFP Rankings. In case you missed it, we detailed how the CFP Rankings affect the pointspread earlier this week. Here, we’ll review the top games for this weekend in College Football.
Clemson remains number one this week after surviving late against Florida State last Saturday.
The Tigers were tied with the Seminoles in the fourth quarter but found a way to come out on top – even if they didn’t cover a big 12.5-point number. This week Clemson has a much easier task on the field against Syracuse, but are tasked by this sportsbook and even a few korean sportsbook to cover a huge 28-point number.
Clemson also has to deal with a big letdown situation coming off that big win. So too does Alabama, who is coming off their biggest win of the season when they demolished #2 LSU at home last Saturday. This week, they hit the road against Mississippi State who is one of the better passing teams Alabama will face this season. The online sportsbooks still like Alabama’s chances, however, installing them as a solid eight-point road choice.
According to several sportsbook reviews websites, last week’s upset win by Oklahoma State over TCU began a stretch of huge games throughout the Big 12 Conference over the next few weeks. We have another big matchup in the Big 12 this weekend when #12 Oklahoma visits #6 Baylor. The Bears won last year’s meeting on the road in a lopsided 48-14 blowout, but they lost starting QB Seth Russell for the season two weeks ago. Baylor is a small 2.5-point favorite at home this Saturday night, and don’t be surprised if the Sooners win this game outright as their offense is rolling with 50+ points scored in their last four games and have a decisive edge defensively in this matchup.
#3 Ohio State has one more tune-up game before facing Michigan State and Michigan the next two weeks, and they will have quarterback JT Barrett back from suspension for driving intoxicated Halloween weekend. Buckeyes are 16-point chalk on the road in a game that sets up as a trap spot for the Buckeyes.
One of the more intriguing games of the weekend doesn’t involve teams from the major conferences. #21 Memphis takes on #24 Houston in a matchup of two of the better mid majors this season. Memphis has just one loss while Houston has remained unbeaten. Cougars are a seven-point home favorite and the online sportsbooks look for a shootout with a high 71-point total.
We’ll be back next week to review some of the marquee matchups in College Football as we near the end of the regular season.
