When you get involved with the Prop Builder at BetAnySports, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It's available for all the NFL games, and if you want to do some heavy analysis, you can focus on a single contest, such as the one we have on Monday night between the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers (8:15 PM ET at Heinz Field, televised by ESPN).
It is an intriguing game, because it matches up a quarterback with all the experience in the world (Ben Roethlisberger) against one with very little experience at all (Justin Fields).
Will this have a heavy influence on the individual performances, and thus our Monday Night Football props?
Let's explore a few of these
Justin Fields - Passing Yards
Over 187.5 Yards -114
Under 187.5 Yards -114
This one is kind of tricky, because even though the Bears are averaging a league-worst 4.4 yards per play and are 31st in offensive yards per drive (as per the analytics guys at Football Outsiders), we could be seeing a "funnel" effect here, in that the Steelers stack the box to stop the Bears' preferred ground game and force Fields to the air.
We're not sure he'll be throwing gratuitously, because we're not sure Pittsburgh can score enough to build up a huge lead. Our suspicion is that Fields might have a difficult time toppling this figure, in what may shape up as a defensive battle.
Najee Harris - Carries
Over 20.5 Carries -114
Under 20.5 Carries -114
We're not sure how many yards rookie running back Najee Harris is going to rush for, but we're relatively confident that he is going to get every opportunity that is available. The Steelers made some people scratch their heads when they drafted Harris, an Alabama alum, in the first round, but they have been making that rationale very clear; they would like him, if at all possible, to become the focal point of the offense.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and first-year offensive coordinator Matt Canada know that they have to preserve Ben Roethlisberger over the course of the season. And to do that they have to take the pressure off him. Last year the Steelers had the worst rushing game in the NFL. But they weren't going to tolerate that again.
Harris got off to a slow start, but is coming on nicely. The key number for BetAnySportspatrons to look at here is that the Steelers have run the ball 48% of the time over their last three games, and maybe it's no coincidence that they have won all three. Harris has carried it 23, 24 and 26 times in those games. It's their intention. And we expect it to continue.
Ben Roethlisberger - Completions
Over 23.5 Completions +100
Under 23.5 Completions -130
Big Ben is an asset, and he will throw the ball. But as mentioned above, there is a re-tooled Pittsburgh offensive philosophy that is designed with his protection in mind.
The Steelers' offensive line came in with four new starters, so no one could really bank on him having a lot of time to throw. So he has been throwing shorter passea and getting rid of them quicker. In fact, he has thrown the ball an average of only 6.9 yards beyond the line of scrimmage and averages just 6.6 yards per attempt, only slightly above that of Fields, so he's short-arming it.
And the Bears' pass rush (second in the NFL in sack percentage) is a concern, even without the injured Khalil Mack.
So expect to see more high-percentage passes being thrown, Roethlisberger is averaging 25 completions a game, so an even money price is not out of line at all for us.
And there's a lot more where that came from.
