Massachusetts to Review Applications for Mobile Sports Betting Licenses

mobile sports betting licensePlayers must wait until the end of January to determine which sports betting firms will get mobile sports betting licenses. So it is according to a new timeline from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

Category Three unattached sports betting license applications are for companies that seek to offer digital or mobile-only gambling. However, they are not affiliated with a casino, horse racetrack, or simulcasting facility. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will start its review beginning next week.

According to sports betting software reviews, FanDuel, Bally's Interactive, BetR, PointsBet, DraftKings, and Betway are among the six businesses that have applied to provide independent mobile sports betting in Massachusetts.

A series of hearings similar to the ones the commission just wrapped up for Encore Boston Harbor, Plainridge Park Casino, MGM Springfield, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and WynnBET will be held to choose the winners of up to seven tethered licenses allowed by state law.

On January 6, officials will invite representatives from all six firms to begin hearings regarding the candidates for truly mobile sportsbooks. However, sportsbook pay per head reviews are not part of their plan.

During this meeting, authorities will begin looking into Bally's Interactive's application after being briefed on the legal framework by chief attorney Todd Grossman and hearing an overview of the process from Commission Chair Cathy Judd-Stein.

On January 9 and 10, a hearing will be held for FanDuel. Then on January 11 and 13, for DraftKings and Betway. Lastly, on January 17, the commission will hold a hearing for Pointsbet. Commission members have postponed making a final decision on approving licenses until January 19 and 20.

According to bookie PPH sources, each company will have half an hour to present to the commission and another half an hour to demonstrate their mobile platform at their respective hearings before regulators begin a section-by-section review of the applications.
